Another great use of Twitter in NZ

I have been thinking about how people in NZ would find Twitter useful, other than the distraction it seems to be for me.

I have been monitoring the number of tweets that have been coming from within NZ, when I saw this tweet.

So here is someone passionate about mountain biking and they have setup a website that shares tracks around the Wellington region that might interest other mountain bikers.

The best feature of the website is the use of Google Maps Satellite view to show the path the tracks take.

Updates on track status are fed to the website and then pushed into Twitter via Twitter for Ruby on Rails library.

Given that the Twitter feed was only setup on the 14th of Dec 09, it will be interesting to see what the uptake of this service is.

In a follow up to this post I have decided I will collate more uses of Twitter. The most obvious to date has been the use of Twitter for Customer support with both Vodafone and Telecom doing it in NZ.
